About Nicolas

I'm an engineering leader with a solid background in backend development, cloud-native platforms, and event-driven systems. I love transforming complex constraints into simple experiences for users and engineers alike.

At Victor Buck Services, I oversee several mission-critical platforms handling secure document generation, archival, and digital communication for demanding clients. My role sits at the intersection of architecture, operations, team coaching, and very hands-on troubleshooting when things break.

Before that, I worked on large-scale IoT platforms connecting over a million devices for brands like Gorenje and Bosch Siemens. I have a long history with Java stacks, and I care deeply about clean APIs, observability, and pragmatic automation.

What I'm Working On

I spend my time modernizing an existing ecosystem of platforms while keeping production rock solid. This means managing logging and observability initiatives, pushing for better delivery pipelines, simplifying our architecture, and helping teams adopt best practices in a highly regulated context.

I care deeply about documentation, knowledge sharing, and building healthy engineering cultures. I enjoy writing onboarding guides, creating internal wikis, and using AI tools to help teams move faster without sacrificing quality.

Side Projects & Personality

Outside of work, I play with ideas around Nicolas Pieper Engineering, experiment with logos, stickers and visual identities, and explore how AI can truly support engineering and product teams. I also enjoy designing fun brands (sometimes involving my golden retriever Pampelune), and I obsess a bit too much about cars and gear.
